IRC launches operations as stricter immigration policies and rising xenophobia challenge Venezuelans’ possibilities to cover basic needs, including food, shelter and access to a job.

There are now about 100,000 people, the vast majority of whom are women and children, living in approximately 20 informal sites in Chad, having crossed the Logone and Chari rivers to find refuge.

Conflict, violence, displacement and socio-economic crises are causing fast-escalating needs. In 2022, more than 30 million Sahelians will need assistance and protection, over one million more than in 2021.

The UN team in the country, in close collaboration with the Mexican authorities, is working to ensure that they receive essential, and often life-saving, assistance.
